A Fitness Supplement That Everyone Needs!*

In my previous post, 'Are Cherries The New Superfood', 'I addressed the 8 reasons why cherries will spring clean your diet back into shape. Cherries are a great source of Vitamin C which helps to reduce blood pressure, migraines, and many other factors, like, preventing diseases like cancer. Therefore, it isn't hard to believe that cherries could be the new super food on the market. Cherries are also a fantastic anti-inflammatory on the body, where the anthocyanin and bioflavonoids have a powerful effect on the body. These properties have a similar activity to ibuprofen and aspirin, so cherries are in fact a great natural pain relief. Many elite athletes are turning to cherries and cherry supplements for many reasons, therefore, let's find out why.

The perfect post-workout snack: Due to their anti-inflammatory properties, cherries may help reduce muscle soreness and inflammation after an intense workout. According to research, people who consumed cherries experienced a 7% drop in blood pressure within 3 hours. This is due to the high concentration in anthocyanin and phenolic compounds which help to relax the blood vessels. So if you suffer from high blood pressure after a workout, it may be worth giving cherries a try.

Speed up muscle recovery: Cherries have proven to decrease induced muscle damage following strength training, meaning, you are able to recover and gain strength quicker. Cherries also help to regulate your sleep which can improve the muscle recovery process too. This is due to melatonin, which is a hormone that helps regulate sleeping patterns. Researchers founds that consuming cherries 30 minutes after waking, and 30 minutes before the evening meal, boosted sleep by 84 minutes.

Good for weight loss: Cherries lower inflammation, balance cholesterol levels, regulate sleep, and reduce stress, all of which helps to eliminate body fat. The antioxidants are also proven to slim down your waist line, which is a bonus addition to throw into your diet. Be sure to choose whole food cherries when you can, since dried and juice forms are always higher in sugar. Go and check out Seasonal Berries for more information.
